The coming Kingdom of God.
Daniel 2:24 in the days of these kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed; and the kingdom shall not be left to other people; it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever.
Messiah taught us to pray that the Kingdom of God would come.
Matthew 6:9-10 In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Right now, the Kingdom of God is spiritual because it's within us. We make Messiah our King now, we live as Kingdom people now waiting for the literal Kingdom to come.
Luke 17:20-21 Some of the Pharisees asked Jesus, “When will the kingdom of God come?” Jesus answered, “God’s kingdom is coming, but not in a way that you will be able to see with your eyes. People will not say, ‘Look, here it is!’ or, ‘There it is!’ because God’s kingdom is within you.”
When Messiah returns, He's fulfilling the Feast of Trumpets. He's coming to do away with all those who refuse to even acknowledge the existence of God and those who refuse to respond to the Gospel.
2 Thessalonians 1:7-9 It is also right for God to give all of us relief from our suffering. He will do this when the Lord Jesus is revealed, coming from heaven with his mighty angels in a blazing fire. He will take revenge on those who refuse to acknowledge God and on those who refuse to respond to the Gospel about our Lord Jesus. They will pay the penalty by being destroyed forever, by the presence of the Lord and from his glorious power.
Matthew 25:31-32 When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats.
He will remove from His Kingdom, by destroying with fire, all things that cause sin and all those who practice lawlessness.
Matthew 13:40-42 Just as the weeds are sorted out and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the world. The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will remove from his Kingdom everything that causes sin and all who practice lawlessness. And the angels will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
During the Feast of Trumpets, Messiah will also resurrect all those who belong to Him, this is the first of two resurrections. The next one happens after the 1000-years.
1 Corinthians 15:51-54 Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: "Death is swallowed up in victory.''
1 Corinthians 15:22-23 All men will die as Adam died. But all those who belong to Christ will be raised to new life. This is the way it is: Christ was raised from the dead first. Then all those who belong to Christ will be raised from the dead when He comes again.
As the righteous are being raised, destruction by fire will consume the wicked.
Malachi 4:1 “For behold, the day is coming, burning like an oven, and all the proud, yes, all who do wickedly will be stubble. And the day which is coming shall burn them up,” says the Lord of hosts, “That will leave them neither root nor branch. 3. You shall trample the wicked, for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet on the day that I do this,” Says the Lord of hosts.
A short time after Messiah's second coming, He will return to fulfill the Day of Atonement when Israel recognizes Him as their King. This will set off the 1000-year Millennium reign as King on the throne of His father, King David fulfilling the Feast of Tabernacles.
Luke 1:32-33 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.
During the 1000-year reign of Messiah on the earth, there will some of us who will reign with Him as kings and priests for those 1000-years.
Revelation 20:4 I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was committed to them. Then I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received his mark on their foreheads or on their hands. And they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.
Revelation 5:10 And have made us kings and priests to our God; and we shall reign on the earth.
During the 1000-reign of Messiah He will be ruling with a rod of iron because during that time there will still be mortal people living who made it through the destruction of the wicked because they never heard the truth about Messiah or the ways of God.
Revelation 19:14-16 the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses. Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it, He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the wine press of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.
During the Millennium there will be people being born and people dying because the Millennium is not the finished Kingdom.
Isaiah 65:17-21 For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; and the former shall not be remembered or come to mind. But be glad and rejoice forever in what I create; for behold, I create Jerusalem as a rejoicing, and her people a joy. I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and joy in My people; the voice of weeping shall no longer be heard in her, nor the voice of crying. “No more shall an infant from there live but a few days, nor an old man who has not fulfilled his days; for the child shall die one hundred years old, but the sinner being one hundred years old shall be accursed. They shall build houses and inhabit them; they shall plant vineyards and eat their fruit.
There will be no wars in the Millennium, God's Law will be taught without man's corruption.
Isaiah 2:3-4 Many people shall come and say, “Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; He will teach us His ways, and we shall walk in His paths.” For out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. He shall judge between the nations, and rebuke many people; they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore.
This is not the finished Kingdom. This will continue for 1000-years, the Torah will be taught and people will have a chance to receive the truth without man's corruption. Satan will be bound for the 1000-years and there won't be a different denomination on every street corner. But after the 1000-years are finished, Satan will be set free one more time.
Revelation 20:1-3 Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; and he cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal on him, so that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were finished. But after these things he must be released for a little while.
After the thousand years have ended there will be a second resurrection, the resurrection of the wicked.
Acts 24:15 I have the same hope in God as these men themselves have, that there will be a resurrection of both the righteous and the wicked.
The first resurrection is for the righteous, that happens at the beginning of the 1000-years and then after the 1000-years the wicked will be raised.
Revelation 20:4-6 I saw thrones on which were seated those who had been given authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony about Jesus and because of the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended. This is the first resurrection. Blessed and holy are those who share in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him for a thousand years.
The wicked will be judged after the 1000-years and when all is complete and finished, the Son will turn the Kingdom of God over to His Father.
1 Corinthians 15:22-28 Just as everyone dies because we all belong to Adam, everyone who belongs to Christ will be given new life. But there is an order to this resurrection: Christ was raised as the first of the harvest; then all who belong to Christ will be raised when he comes back. After that the end will come, when he will turn the Kingdom over to God the Father, having destroyed every ruler and authority and power. For Christ must reign until he humbles all his enemies beneath his feet. And the last enemy to be destroyed is death. For the Scriptures say, “God has put all things under his authority.” Of course, when it says “all things are under his authority,” that does not include God himself, who gave Christ his authority. Then, when all things are under his authority, the Son will put himself under God’s authority, so that God, who gave his Son authority over all things, will be utterly supreme over everything everywhere.
Did Messiah already return?
Some denominations such as, Jehovah Witnesses, teach that Messiah already came, but this is not true. There are some verses that seem to say He already came during the time in which the Apostles were still alive. They believe this because they are misinterpreting the verses, such as, Matthew 24:30-34.
Matthew 24:30-34 Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. “Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near—at the doors! Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place.
They say Messiah came already because Matthew 24:34 says Messiah comes before their generation passes away.
The word, (generation) is the Strong's G1074 Greek word (age). A generation means the age of the people Messiah was talking to but age means the end of a certain era, which is the time between the Feast of Pentecost and the Feast of Trumpets. Notice how the correct word (age) is used in Matthew 13:40-42
Matthew 13:40-42 Therefore as the tares are gathered and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of this age. The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and those who practice lawlessness, and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
There is another verse they use to teach Messiah already came and it's found in Matthew 16:28.
Matthew 16:28 Assuredly, I say to you, there are some standing here who shall not taste death till they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom.
They say that since Messiah will come before some of them die He must have already come. Some pastors who read this verse say Messiah was referring to the transfiguration, which happens just six days later.
Matthew 17:1:1-2 Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, led them up on a high mountain by themselves; and He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light.
I find it a little hard to believe that Messiah would mention people not dying before the transfiguration just six days later.
When you read the context of Matthew 16:28 you don't it fitting the transfiguration but fitting more with Messiah's second coming.
Matthew 16:27-28 For the Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He will reward each according to his works. Assuredly, I say to you, there are some standing here who shall not taste death till they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom.
All this confusion is coming from a mistranslation of the word, some. The word, (some) is the Greek word (tis) and is the Strong's number G5100 which can mean (one) or a (a certain one).
What Messiah really said was, "Assuredly, I say to you, there be one standing here who shall not taste death till he sees the Son of Man coming in His kingdom."
We know that, according to the context, Messiah was talking to His disciples, so which of the disciples didn't die before he saw the second coming of Messiah?
John didn't die before he saw the second coming of Messiah because God allowed him to see it to tell us all about it.
Revelation 19:11-19 Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself. He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses. Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the wine press of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS. Then I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the birds that fly in the midst of heaven, “Come and gather together for the supper of the great God, that you may eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and of those who sit on them, and the flesh of all people, free and slave, both small and great.” And I saw the beast, the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against Him who sat on the horse and against His army.
The false teaching that Messiah already came was already floating around during the days of the Apostles, so it's not a new heresy.
2 Thessalonians 2:1-2 Our Lord Jesus Christ is coming again. We will be gathered together to meet Him. But we ask you, Christian brothers, do not be troubled in mind or worried by the talk you hear. Some say that the Lord has already come. People may say that I wrote this in a letter or that a spirit told them.
The Bible is clear and very true. There is a time coming, at the end of the age, when Messiah returns with His angels in flaming fire to judge all who dwell on the earth. That day has not yet happened.
